Gabriel n°36 was used as a test bed aircraft for the "Belette" and "Furet" ELINT equipment suites from 1966 on.
However, the exact configuration of n°36 when this picture was taken at Metz in 1977 - experimentation had just ended
by then - is uncertain. It was still equipped with UHF antennas related to the "Furet III" system
although the wingtip fairings had been removed (see
THIS picture). On the other hand, it had none of the standard antennas of a Gabriel. The former
locations of the various antennas used during tests were conspicuous under the belly. N°36 would have ended
its career as a cargo aircraft.
