Li-2

This modified Li-2 for electronic reconnaissance was photographed at Berlin-Schönefeld in January 1957. One will notice the HF antenna on the fuselage top and the fairings located under the wings and the fuselage. The rudder trim tab of these special Li-2s was painted in a distinctive color. The building visible behind the fuselage was the Dorfkirche, located at Kirchstrasse n°4 in Schönefeld. This church seemed closer than it actually was because of the telephoto lens compression effect. That building in the background indicates that the aircraft was standing on the concrete apron located on the right side of the air-to-ground picture that illustrates this article. Had the Li-2 been taken from another part of the airfield, the church would have looked different. Note the few Yak-12s in the background.
